NREL Tour

If you want to find out more about our neighborhood energy research, come to our tour of NREL. This will be a great chance to learn more about some of the things we discuss at Energy Frontiers. The tour will be on April 10 from 2-4 and we will arrange a carpool to drive to Golden together. Sign up today, because space is limited.

CU Campus Co-generation Plant Tours

We will be starting off the semester with two tours of the CU campus co-generation power plant (generating heat and electricity for campus use).  The tours will be held at noon on 1/23 and 1/30. For more info see the link below.  Sign up today!

Plains End Gas-Fired Power Plant Tour

We have the opportunity to go on a tour of the Plains End natural gas-fired power plant south of Boulder off of Highway 93. The Plains End Generating Station is a 228MW reciprocating engine peaker plant that is capable of quickly ramping up in times of peak demand. More information about Plains End can be found here.

If you have a spot on the tour, we will be meeting at the small parking lot just north of the Engineering Center near the Discovery Learning Center at 1:15PM on Dec. 5th. We will then head to the Plains End facility south of Boulder where our tour is scheduled for 2PM. The tour will last about 45 minutes to an hour, so we should be back on campus around 3:30PM.

Note that we will meet for the tour right after Dec. 5th’s Energy Talks which will cover the topic of natural gas-fired electricity generation.

Ascent Solar Facility Tour

We have the opportunity to go on a tour of the facilities at Ascent Solar Technologies where they produce PV solar panels.

For those attending the field trip on Tuesday, November 11th, we will be traveling to Ascent Solar Technologies Inc. in Thornton. It is a 30MW solar cell manufacturing facility that specializes in thin-film solar panels for a variety of purposes, ranging from consumer electronics to military applications.
If you have a reserved spot, we will be meeting outside at the 15 minute parking by the parking lot on the north side of the Engineering Center (along Colorado Ave, see map HERE) at 10 AM (check the picture). We will have a quick briefing and then head to Ascent. Our scheduled time for the tour is 11am and will probably last about an hour, so we should be back before 1pm.
I encourage you to look through the Ascent website – http://www.ascentsolar.com/ – before our tour.
